Solitude

oil 6X8
This was part of the Different Strokes Different Folks Blog that I mentioned last week (sorry that I got the link wrong, it should be http://differentstrokesfromdifferentfolks.blogspot.com). Don't know where the time went, but at least this challenge is motivating me to put aside some time for small paintings weekly.  I am still working on larger colored pencil pieces, but they do take more time in general and hard to post works in progress, although I might start.  This painting was loads of fun since I limited myself on detail in order to finish it.  Black gessoed panel also helped give depth to color.  I spent Sat with my booth at an outdoor Art Fair.  Only sold 2 sets of notecards (to friends!) but was able to visit with other local artists and reinforced my love for making art (selling it is another story - but I'm not giving up)... only downfall was 2 rain showers that made us pack up early and diminished the crowd.  Oh well, always a risk when outside!

Great Escape

Great Escape Pastel 9X12
This was inspired by a weekly challenge posted by Karin Jurick on her blog http://differentstrokesdifferentfolks.blogspot.com/  She is a very talented artist and I like the challenge of the weekly painting.  Since I am having trouble coming up with my own paintings on a weekly basis, at least she will be able to provide me with the inspiration/reference.  I am wanting to use this challenge as a learning experience to improve composition skills (something I need ALOT of work on) as well as using different techniques and tools to have some fun at the same time.
